Well here I am, finally made it to a DrupalCon. And besides the lack of wi-fi in my hotel room, things are going great. Everyone is friendly and all of the volunteer staff seem to be doing a stand up job.
It's especially fun to be a part of the web development/drupal community in a physical form rather than via the web. It's the little things like when a speaker mentions Internet Explorer and 300 people simultaneously boo. Or the mere mention of "multiple background images" inciting a roar of applause. Working from a virtual office means it's rare for me to get to vent about these kinds of things so it's fun to be in an environment with people who have the same interests/passions or jobs!
The seminars themselves have been really great, lots of great minds sharing their experiences and knowledge. The sharing of information and knowledge has been another facet of this trip that is really special. There are just so many "Ah-Ha!" or "Oh thats how that's done..." moments at this conference as well, something that can be few and far between for some of us.
The social scene here has also been excellent, with a Drupal party happening every night since Sunday. Although I haven't been able to make all of them, the one I did go to was very well put together. Cheers to Microsoft for the free drinks all night. The decor at the bar was also very..... Unique to say the least!
So if you're an aspiring developer or a seasoned vet, getting to a DrupalCon at least once is a definite must. There are seminars for beginners to advanced users, and the fun you will have will leave nothing but good memories, or lack thereof perhaps!
